The idea for Rose Market began several years ago while traveling. There are so many small businesses across the country that make us stop, take our time, and enjoy the experience. I wanted to bring that experience to my own place. I’ve lived in Lafayette for about 20 years, and have watched it grow and change, but nowhere is the change more evident than in downtown Lafayette. Many of the buildings in the downtown area are historical, and it’s a very charming place to walk around. But not so long ago it was the kind of place where they rolled up the streets at 4 pm. However, in the past few years, several restaurants have opened, a few craft breweries, and a number of shops and boutiques. There are several apartment complexes being built, and with no downtown market, it seems like the perfect time to open our doors. Our name hails from the family matriarch, Dolores Rose Deno. She was a cook at South Newton High School and was locally famous for her ability to feed dozens of hungry high school students, so we thought it was fitting to pay homage to her by naming our market after her. I have focused my efforts on finding brands that have one or more of the following attributes: organic, sustainably sourced and/or packaged, clean ingredients, and/or a unique approach to product development. I believe that consumers want to make better choices when it comes to the environment and their health. So, with that in mind, I’m sourcing products that will help consumers make those choices all while shopping in an intimate environment like the good old days. I have personally researched every product in the store and tried to find brands that have a story, a purpose or both. There are many companies finding a way to combat homelessness, hunger, and other causes, and I’m trying to support them by bringing their products to Rose Market. There are also a number of companies focusing on taking the bad stuff out of health and beauty products, so we are introducing several of these lines in our Apothecary at Rose Market. That goes for taking care of our pets too. I have several different brands that help our furry friends be healthy, naturally. We hope you enjoy your time at Rose Market, and we look forward to serving you.
