Starting in 1989, Del and Jean began their journey into the Civil War era.
In March of 1996, a retail store was opened at 111 N. Main St. in Liberty, just one block west of the scene of the nation's first daylight civilian bank robbery. A second sutlery tent was added to expand service in the field. A network of seamstresses was created to manufacture uniforms and clothing.
James Country Mercantile is one of the largest sutleries in existence, offering a full line of historically accurate goods, custom sewing, research, consultation and associated services.

" The goal of Liberty Disaster Relief is different than others. The motive isn't profit, but to find a home for good furniture, toys, appliances, tools, housewares and more - before they end up in the landfill. All revenue from the thrift store goes to support the food pantry (at the same location), group homes, a large "Resource Depot" warehouse to meet local needs and more. The thrift store is open from 10am to 7pm Tuesday through Saturday and the phone number is 816-929-4466. The food pantry is open Tuesday 5pm to 7pm and Saturday 1pm to 3pm. Since it's founding in 2005, staffed entirely by volunteers, Liberty Disaster Relief has collected and given away over three million pounds of food and provided hundreds of thousands of meals to the needy in the Northland.
