Abingdon Medical Museum was established by Dr Damian Sooklal in August of 2010, with the main goal of educating and informing the public about the history of medicine. By preserving medical artifacts and sharing them with the wider public, we hope to create a unique educational experience, and further enrich the cultural environment of the region. The museum is located in the Old and Historic district of Abingdon, Virginia, a town founded in 1778, two years after the Revolutionary War. The main exhibits are housed on two floors of a 110 year old building which formerly housed the Abingdon Ambulance Service. The museum maintains exhibits of medical artifacts from the early nineteenth century up to the present day, and focuses on the history of medicine relating to Southwest Virginia.
