Ed Keller began building the mortuary in 1929. Edker L. Lee began working as the sweep up boy after the carpenters would finish for the day at the young age of 15. Ed Lee then decided to go to mortuary school ' career in funeral service began out of a friendship between ' father, Charles Lee, and the funeral home owner, Ed Keller. Ed Lee graduated from Indiana College of Embalming in Indianapolis in 1939. He received his license in December 1939.

Goodwin Family Funeral Home started serving families in 1944, when it was established as Flummerfelt Funeral Home. Ross and Mavorette Flummerfelt opened the home in their residence, the Raab house. In the 1950’s, they were joined by Jerry Goodwin. After leaving to pursue a degree from Indianapolis Mortuary School, Jerry went to Northern Indiana to complete his apprenticeship in 1955. He then returned Vincennes to work with the Flummerfelt’s once again.
