Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home was founded in 1939, by partners Mat Hansen and Otto Schoenfeld, and was originally known as Hansen Funeral Home. Mathias J. "Mat" Hansen was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1938. He married the former Winifred Doyle of Delevan, Wisconsin, and moved to Beloit shortly, thereafter. Otto Schoenfeld was from Clinton, Wisconsin where his family owned Schoenfeld Funeral Home. A few years after the opening of Hansen Funeral Home, Mr. Schoenfeld began experiencing health problems and decided to sell his share of the business to Mat and Winnie Hans
