The job of a sheriff is to protect - true - but this is not limited to the typically perceived function of law enforcement like locking up people who steal goods or rob banks. The sheriff is a peace officer who is responsible for keeping the peace and opposing all forms of intrusions. The sheriff is responsible to not only protect his Constituents from the oppression by a "criminal" but also protect from the acts of any of the branches of government where those acts exceed the designated authority, as designed by our Founding Fathers. If, for instance, a member of the judicial branch usurps his or her authority by connecting his on-the-bench activities with a politically motivated agenda and by issuing an Unconstitutional order it is the sheriff's duty to oppose this type of conduct.
