John Taylor was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a genetic condition that often results in a rapidly progressing form of emphysema, in 2001. After multiple false alarms, he received the double lung transplant that saved his life in January, 2008. Since then, John has worked to increase awareness of Alpha-1, and to promote the importance of organ and tissue donation. The story of he and his donor, a young Colorado man named Joe Templeton, has appeared on television, radio, and in print. He is soon to be featured in the book "Taking Flight: Inspirational Stories of Lung Transplantation". A professional speaker, John tours the country telling his story. He shares his life with his wife, Kathy, their two dogs and two fish.
