Abz Fornitori Musicali (meaning ABZ Musical Outfitters in Italian, the universal language of music) was founded in the Milwaukee suburb of Wauwatosa by one of three generations of cellists. Daniel Wirth, the founder, when contemplating a cello purchase for his eight-year-old son several years ago, was dismayed by the discouraging sound produced by the laminated and poorly-made cellos being promoted to students at exorbitant prices. He noticed that thousands of unsuspecting parents who, unlike himself, had little knowledge of string instruments, were paying high prices for instruments whose flat, feeble, and unresponsive sound usually doomed students to frustration and loss of interest. Those cellos were rented to students one year at a time, for twice their total cost each year, generating huge profits at the expense of parents who were trying to promote their children???s legitimate artistic endeavors. Realizing that, with the help of some highly reputable lutiers, he could obtain finely crafted instruments and finish them to the absolutely highest of standards. Mr. Wirth began acquiring cellos crafted to his specifications, and selling them to cellists at all levels, from beginners to professional performers. Each cello is setup and played personally by Mr. Wirth after the bridge is trimmed and fitted to the individual cello, and the soundpost, fine tuners, and strings have been installed and adjusted. ABZ has earned a following worldwide among discriminating cellists and aspiring students, not only because of the quality of their instruments, but because ABZ stands behind every cello sold with a guarantee that the instrument must be right for the purchaser.
