Hawthorne Country Store, Inc was started in 1998. Brian and Suzy Hawthorne with their daughter and son in Law, Heather and Terry Thelen, bought the existing McFadden Feed Co. with the intention of making it more than a feed store. The family had previously been in the industrial heavy equipment business. They wanted to create a business that they could raise the grandkids in and share their love of animals and the agricultural lifestyle. The old fashioned country store seemed the perfect melding of animal husbandry, gardening, hardware, food preservation, country gifts, western art, tack and clothing into the same space. This is a true family store; it is common to have kids running around the store, or loading for customers. Suzy is the home arts expert, Master Composter, and bookkeeper.
