Appalachian Outfitters of Murphy, NC opened in the summer of 2006. The previous owner's love for this beautiful area and outdoor adventure led them to open the doors to an outfitters store in downtown Murphy. Since opening in 2006, Appalachian Outfitters has been expanded and moved to a large location in the back of the building. Big changes came once again to AO in June of 2016. Manager Justin Mickens, Head Guide Bobby Hand, and Guide Matt Rhodes purchased Appalachian Outfitters. Justin will operate as Owner/Manager, Bobby as Owner/Head Guide, and Matt as Owner/Guide. We are located in beautiful downtown Murphy, NC, just south of the confluence of the Valley River and Hiwassee River, where they join to form Lake Hiwassee. Specialties We proudly stock a variety of gear for flyfishing, fly tying, and paddle sports. We have also been told we have one of the largest fly tying departments in the area. We have based our gear to the outdoor adventure that you are geared for. In October of 2016 we added our Fly Tying Station allowing customers to try new materials, and techniques. After Hours Fly Tying 1st and 3rd Friday of the month at 5:30 PM. After Hours Tying events are open to the public and no scheduled itinerary. Bring your equipment in and we will have a seat reserved for you. Tie whatever you would like, and as always, we are here if you need any help.
