Why would we ever have a need to nail a metal shoe onto the bottom of a horse's hoof especially with the advancements of hoof boots? It has been proven how much healthier the hoof is in it's "Natural" state. Inside the hoof there is bone, tissue, and blood vessels. All of which are in danger with a nailed on shoe, let alone the legs and body. The reason for this is quite simple, a horses hoof is made to expand and contract. It is very rare that, founder, navicular, thrush, and other hoof problems are ever found in the wild horses. As a natural hoof care provider, I am mimicking with my tools what the rocks and varied terrain would do naturally. This is why it is so important to keep the horses on a schedule. In my experience, trimmings should occur every 4 weeks.
