Emily Anne (Annie) Shepherd, MD, attended the University of Notre Dame for undergraduate education, pursued a medical degree at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN, and then completed her surgical retina fellowship with Illinois Retina Associates and Rush University. She serves as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush University Medical Center.

Dr. Sarah Syeda was born in Ireland and received a richly diverse international education. She spent her formative years attending an international school in Saudi Arabia before relocating to England for high school. From there, she went on to pursue her medical education at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. After earning her medical degree, she completed two years of clinical training as a Foundation House Officer with the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland. Dr. Syeda went on to complete her ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute in Michigan and completed her vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the renowned Illinois Retina Associates and chose to join the practice following her training.

Veena Raiji, MD, MPH, specializes in diseases of the retina and macula, as well as ocular inflammatory disease. She joined Illinois Retina Associates in 2021, and is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Uveitis and Inflammatory Disease Section at the Department of Ophthalmology at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Raiji is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is fluent in English and Spanish.

Naryan Ryan Sabherwal, MD, developed an early respect for the practice of eyecare growing up as the son, grandson and nephew of optometrists and opticians, in Erie, PA. As a frequent witness to the gratitude his father patients expressed, he became acutely aware of the vital role that vision plays in everyone life. Dr. Sabherwal graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Health Sciences and a minor in Biology from James Madison University, and then attended Drexel University College of Medicine, in Philadelphia, where he was inducted into the AOA honors society. Dr. Sabherwal did his residency at Loyola University Medical Center, where he was elected Chief Resident, in his final year.

Henry Feng, MD Henry Feng, MD specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of conditions involving the retina, vitreous, and macula. He is an expert in managing the full spectrum of vitreoretinal diseases, including retinal detachment, retinal holes/tears, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusion, epiretinal membrane, vitreomacular traction syndrome, macular hole, dislocated intraocular lens, as well as other rare and complex retinal conditions. He joined Illinois Retina Associates in August, 2022 and is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush University Medical Center.

Mathew W. MacCumber, MD, PhD, is a nationally recognized expert in the medical and surgical treatment of vitreoretinal disease. He serves as Professor and Associate Chairman for Research in the Department of Ophthalmology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He is also Chairman of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Council and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Board of Trustees. He has been with Illinois Retina since 1996.
