Sunday Friends empowers families in need to break the cycle of poverty. Children and parents earn basic necessities while they contribute to their community, learn life skills and develop self-sufficiency.
Sunday Friends was founded by Janis Baron, a mother of three and Silicon Valley engineer, in January of 1997. Concerned about the lack of awareness among high school students of different cultures, races and lifestyles, including her own young teens, Janis decided one Sunday to take her children to a family shelter. Despite twenty years of community volunteering, Janis was uncertain about how to help, so she began by having her children interact with the children in the shelter: playing games, drawing and reading. Our Round Table was founded in March, 2019 for two basic reasons: many of our brother and sister Vietnam or Vietnam-Era veterans were passing on without their experiences being told and because we wanted a group to share the stories and history with.This group is modeled after the Central Pennsylvania Round Table of Harrisburg, Pa., not far from my boyhood home. (centralpavietnamroundtable.com) The Round Table is all about the history of the Vietnam War both written and oral. The Round Table is about the VN Vet thanking him/her for their service and welcoming them home. The Round Table has four ideals: welcome home, thank you for your service, Never Forgotten - POW/MIA, and some gave all/all gave some.
