A non-profit organization dedicated to promoting awareness, understanding, and cross-cultural learning for American Indians and others, Gathering of Nations, Ltd., was founded in 1983. As part of its mission, Gathering of Nations commits itself to serving Native American university students through its longstanding Academic Scholarship Foundation for Native American Students, intended to help with the cost of learning at The University of New Mexico. The organization also supports various efforts to promote the education and development of American Indian communities. Over the years, Gathering of Nations has established a Native American literacy program, provided funds for young American Indians to attend sports camps, and offered custom computers for community members with disabilities.
