Lessons taught in a traditional format include piano/music theory (note identification, timing, key signatures, signs), technique (dynamics, hand/finger formation and positioning, pedal usage), lesson and performance pieces. Curriculum is selected based off the student's interest, learning style, age, piano and music background, and other factors. Lessons taught in a non-traditional format include time spent learning different key signatures, the Key Circle, chords and chord theory, ear training, and selected pieces on which to work. These pieces may be brought in by the student or suggested by the teacher. Piano/music theory and technique, as mentioned in the paragraph above, are incorporated on an as-needed basis into the lesson.
