Dr. Debra Whaley loves working with children and their families and that made pediatrics the perfect choice for her. She feels that parents play a big role in their child's care and well-being, so she feels strongly about making sure parents are a part of their child's care and treatment plans. "I enjoy working with parents to help them relate with the child and understand the child's behaviors," said Dr. Whaley, "but my favorite part of my job is making kids smile."

Dr. Alexis Sawyer chose to become a physician because of her strong interest in science and the enjoyment of interacting with patients and their families. "One of the main reasons that I went into pediatrics is because it's an area of medicine where you can do a lot of good through prevention," said Dr. Sawyer. "My philosophy is all about prevention. I need to be at the forefront in preventing your child's major illnesses by immunizing them and doing good, thorough well-checks. It's my responsibility to take care of the family as a whole by taking the best care of patients.

Dr. Gregory Penny joined Boys Town Pediatrics in 1997. "I had a wonderful pediatrician growing up who really inspired me, and I have always had a love of kids and a love of the science of medicine," said Dr. Penny. "I consider my role to be like a tour guide. I think having a child is the beginning of a life-long journey. It's a journey most people only take a few times in their lives and my job is to guide them through that, helping families avoid the pitfalls and just have fun along the way.

Growing up, Dr. Katherine Penny's best friend's Dad was a pediatrician. He encouraged her to volunteer at the hospitals when she was in high school, where she had the opportunity to watch doctors and nurses care for babies. "I knew I wanted to do the same thing," said Dr. Penny. "Children have such joy and energy that it makes it fun to come to work every day," she said. "I think it is an honor and a privilege to be here at Boys Town Pediatrics and to be trusted with the care of the patients.
