Saint John's is a community committed to knowing God along with the consequences of what such an encounter will bring. We welcome you to a place where the work of souls is taken seriously. God has no grandchildren, and each of us must, as St. Paul wrote, Work out faith with fear and trembling.
So if you are searching for God for the first time or perhaps looking for a place to live out the shape of your obedience in a community of faith, you well may have found a home.
Sunday Services: 8am, 10:30am, 5:30pm
Wednesday Healing Service: 12:10pm
Saint John's Episcopal Church was founded on the corner of Semmes and Spottswood in 1878. They constructed the current building at Central and Greer in 1948, under the leadership of The Rev. Alfred "Tib" Loaring-Clark. Saint John's first rector, The Rev. Loaring Clark, and his successor, The Rev. Wallace M. "Penny" Pennepacker, led the church for a combined 57 years and grew it into a large congregation in what is now known as the University District.
In more recent years, Saint John's has become a place for growing families, community engagement, and spiritual healing. The people of Saint John's look forward to welcoming you to join us in this place where souls encounter the Living God in word and sacrament
