Reworking carved wood bowls, rescued from a discard pile, refuting the old saying "you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear."
Rescued roots formed into basic shapes are the beginning raw material for my products. I rescue (again) rejected pieces from the irregular/broken stack at a much larger workplace. I use the flaw, or discoloration, or damage to influence my treatment of each individual piece. Using carving gouges, rotary tools, sanding techniques, saws, burning devices, pigments (inks, paints) and special finishes I make unique art objects of a playful variety.
