Bale Kenyon Family Farms carries on a proud agricultural tradition spanning more than 100 years on land that has been part of the family for generations. The Bale family first settled in the area in the late 1700s, establishing deep roots in farming and rural life. Over the years, the farm has produced corn, wheat, and hay while raising cattle, horses, and other livestock. More recently, the property has supported a variety of 4-H animals and youth projects, helping younger generations develop responsibility, strong work ethics, and an appreciation for agriculture. Bayer's Melon Farm began in 1980 when the Bayer family planted its first acre of Burpee Hybrid Cantaloupes just off Route 35, near Trotwood, Ohio. By 1990, the Bayer family, with the help of local teens, was harvesting about 40 acres of delicious cantaloupes and vegetables year after year - hauls that were large enough to pile up on their driveway and sell to folks who were driving by. Thus, the market was born. Bayer's Melon Farm Market has since become a destination market and favorite stop for both community members and travelers alike. As it always has, the market continues to partner with both local and regional farmers and businesses to offer its wide variety of in-season produce and hand-crafted goods to its customers. Now serving over 1,400 people a week in the height of the season, the market continues to be a place where folks from near and far can always expect to find the highest quality products and the friendliest farmers around.
