Greener by Design, Inc. became our company name in late 2005 following 26 years as Mornhurst Gardens, Co. Inc. Mornhurst Gardens was founded in 1979 by Ann Roberts Levine, the mother of the present owner, Richard Heller. Ms. Levine had an interest in interior plants, and Mr. Heller expanded the business to include his area of interest, exterior urban landscapes, selling the interior plantscape part of the business at the beginning of 2009. Through communication, planning, and continually learning, Greener by Design stands for the highest standard of quality, professionalism, and respect for environment, our clients and each other. We embrace new experiences and challenges so that we remain on the forefront of our industry and enrich our community, while receiving fair and equitable compensation for the value we deliver.

We are a small, Brooklyn-based design firm focused on a detailed, thorough approach to landscape design. Our projects range from small urban gardens and rooftops to cemetery plots and street medians in New York City, Long Island and New Jersey.

WHAT'S EIFS? EIFS ("Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems", aka "synthetic stucco") is an exterior building wall product and is a system of materials. EIFS provides insulation, weatherproofing and a finished surface in a single integrated product. There are various types of EIFS and several ways of installing it, but EIFS is usually applied onto the outside face of exterior building walls, in a series of steps, by professional plasterers, using hand tools. The installation steps are: Attach the Insulation. Attach rigid foam insulation boards (white, in drawing above) to the building wall (gray, above) using an adhesive or mechanical anchors or both.
