He then attended the University of Chicago as a federally sponsored Medical Scientist Training Grant recipient and earned his MBA in medical economics (1978) and his MD (1980.) He then pursued a career in dermatology by doing a medical internship at Michael Reese Hospital (1980-81) followed by residency training at the University of Chicago (1981-84) where he was named chief resident in his last year. His then accepted a position at the University of Chicago as Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of the Dermatology Clinic (1984-87.) He then went into private practice (1987-present) wherein he founded Medical Surgical Dermatology in Berwyn (1987-present).
