Hon. James L. Hyer is a NYS Supreme Court Justice in the 9th Judicial District of New York. James served as the Corporation Counsel for the Legal Aid Society of Westchester, Inc., and was an Administrative Law Judge for the Westchester Human Rights Commission. Mr. Hyer is admitted to practice law in the Courts of the State of New York, Southern District of New York and Eastern District of new York, and is also a trained mediator. James has successfully assisted clients in a wide range of litigated cases and transactional matters, including Article 81 Guardianship Proceedings, where he has represented Alleged Incapacitated Persons, Petitioners, Respondents and been appointed by the Court as the Court Evaluator. James has received numerous honors for his legal work including 2021 Leading Attorney by the Hudson Valley Magazine; 2020 NYS Senate Commendation for Human Rights Advocacy; 2019 NYS Bar Association Fellow; 2017 Human Rights Leadership Award from Westchester Residential Opportunities, Inc.; 2016 Leading Attorney under 40 by Pace Law School, Westchester County Bar Association and Westchester Women's Bar Association, and; 2014 Leadership Award from the Westchester County Bar Association.
James has frequently lectures on legal issues and has published legal articles in periodicals including Westchester Business Journal, Westchester Family Magazine, Westchester Lawyer Magazine, and wrote the introduction to the book, "Parenting Through Divorce," by Lisa Rene Reynolds, Phd.
