The SKYPi Observatory is the result of our need to liberate an astronomical imaging interest from the light polluted muck of uncontrolled big city expansion. After searching, to no avail, throughout Arizona for an affordable and truly dark solution, the move to sparsely populated and unspoiled New Mexico became an obvious solution. This dark sight was found in Pie Town, New Mexico; population approximately 200. The nearest small population center (Springerville, AZ) is 65 miles away and Albuquerque 150 miles. SKYPi boasts Bortle Dark Scale 1 sky. An altitude of nearly 8,000 feet places the sight above the majority of particulates and haze that plague many lower sites.
