After the founders moved to Boise, they decided to start Pho Nguyen when they saw the difficulty in finding a quality Vietnamese restaurant in their area. The name "Pho Nguyen" is derived from the Vietnamese culinary staple, "Pho", which typically consists of rice noodles, onions, herbs, seasonings, and thinly sliced beef or chicken in a clear broth. "Nguyen" comes from the last name of one of the founders. Pho Nguyen brings all of their culinary recipes from their heritage in Saigon, Vietnam.
