SixPoint Materials, Inc. is developing a liquid-phase crystal growth technology capable of a 90% cost reduction in manufacturing of gallium nitride (GaN) wafers, which is the key material for the next generation high-end light emitting diodes (LEDs), blue/green laser diodes and high-frequency power transistors. Our proprietary liquid-phase growth method, the ammonothermal method, applies the same concept of quartz growth in geo-thermal environment. The superior advantage of the ammonothermal method is its scalability, which is proven by the hydrothermal method - a counterpart for oxide crystals - used for the mass production of artificial quartz and zinc oxide. SixPoint's technology will provide cost competitive gallium nitride wafers for next-generation LED, LDs and transistors.
