AMI is developing a small scale wave energy device that generates 5 to 10 watts of power from a 0.4 meter buoy in 15 to 25 cm windchop in intracoastal waterways. Our next development is a generator that will provide 7 KW from a 2 meter buoy operating in just 1.5 meter ocean swells. We expect full scale utility power sized systems to generate 250 KW per buoy in 2 meter seas and up to 700 KW per buoy in 3 meter seas. AMI's generator is a simple patented linear generator that directly creates electric power from the up and down motion of the buoy on the water. The simplicity of the design allow for cost advantage use of wave energy.
