April L. Kirkwood graduated from Youngstown State University earning a secondary English certification. She worked in the Special Education Department as a graduate assistant and received a master's degree in Community Counseling. Later she received further accreditation continuing her certification as a school counselor. She also earned a social work degree in the state of Ohio.
