In his book, The Hope of Salvation, Harding “Brent” Hedgpeth demonstrates the difference between an “assurance” mindset (the notion that one can know with full assurance that one has Salvation and nothing or no one can take it away) and a “hopeful” mindset (one that says “I think I am one of God’s elect, because I have a strong desire to trust and obey Jesus” while never assuming Salvation). The key to maintaining a hopeful, humble mindset is recognizing that nothing is set in stone. Only those who live a life of demonstrated faith and hope will make it into heaven. However, it can sometimes be the very act of teaching the Bible that turns many against the Bible’s teachings.
