Paul worked as a valet, parking cars at the Precinct Restaurant in Cincinnati, Ohio and worked as a law clerk to make ends meet while attending Chase College of Law. He became the first Chase student to win the Bettman Moot Court Competition as a first year law student and went on to lead Chase to the final 16 in the National Moot Court Championship in New York City. This marked the first time Chase had ever made it so far. After winning the Bettman, Paul received a full scholarship for the balance of his time at Chase. Paul became licensed to practice law in 1991 and opened his solo practice immediately. His law practice can best be described as representing people and not corporations.
