Gitche Gumee Landing Gift Shop is a retail store offering unique candles made on site by Upper Peninsula Candle Company, Designs by Guinevere - a line of agate/copper/rock jewelry made by the owner, other unique gifts, and a rock shop area stocked by Red Metal Minerals. Red Metal Minerals, has been a wholesale mineral business for over 40 years, owned by Richard Whiteman, specializing in Michigan materials and items made from .999 pure solid copper. Richard also owned and operated the Caledonia Mine for over 30 years. He mined for specimens, and offered various collecting (as seen on the Travel Channel) and educational opportunities. He also co-founded The Red Metal Retreat with the Seaman Mineral Museum. They operated the retreat for many years, and it is now called Keweenaw Mineral Days. He was the 2006 recipient of the Carnegie Mineralogical Award, honoring outstanding contributions in mineralogical preservation, conservation, and education, one of the most prestigious awards in the field of mineralogy.
