I love giving tours of Charleston and sharing the history and stories of the city.
As a fourth generation Charlestonian, I grew up in the historic downtown area which was very different then. It was covered with kids playing in the streets and riding bicycles all over town. The streets were much quieter and there was more peeling paint. Families went home for "Charleston dinner" around 2 pm, then went back to work or school.
My grandparents, Robert and Patti Whitelaw, were very involved in historic preservation of Charleston, and were among the founders of the Historic Charleston Foundation. Needless to say, I grew up hearing about Charleston's beautiful architecture, bygone culture and colorful characters. I feel blessed to live in the Charleston area and to raise my young daughter here. I invite you to come see Charleston with me.

This is an exciting beginning for Tour Charleston Today, thank you for being a part of it. The official launch for my brand new walking tour company in Charleston, South Carolina is only a few weeks out, official launch date soon to come. Today seemed like the perfect day to start my Tour Charleston Today travel blog to be written under the pseudonym Charleston Guide.
If you have ever been to the city I love and I am proud to call home, Charleston, South Carolina then you know how lovely it is and why I am thrilled to be in the position of being a licensed tour guide for her. You also probably noticed that there is no shortage of tour companies. So, why do we need another one or better yet what is so great about Tour Charleston Today?
Well........
Thank you for asking. RESEARCH, CONTENT and FEELING are the 3 main reasons why my tours are different and why my tours are needed. The research that has gone into our 3 inaugural tours Charleston Unmasked, Charleston Layered With Death and Denmark Vesey, Slavery and The Planter Aristocracy, encompasses over a thousand hours of research, hundreds of books and countless interviews and articles.
That research enables Tour Charleston Today to provide an entertaining and eye opening narrative that seemingly writes itself. This content is our city's most compelling and essential but much of it has been overlooked or glossed over for fear of reprisal from the establishment.
Charleston Guide is willing to take this risk because at no time in our history has it been more important to shed light on these subjects. The end result is a tour that evokes a feeling and a connection to the material, for both the guide and the guided, to Charleston's wonderful but sometimes questionable past.
It is going to be a great ride. I look forward to when it is your turn to ride. See you in The Holy City.
