Welcome to the Stamford Observatory. Adults and children of all ages enjoy coming to have a peek through the telescope and attending demonstrations in the amazing planetarium.
Our 22-inch telescope is completely controlled by computer and can also be controlled manually with a joystick. To pin-point something in the sky, the coordinates or name of the object can be entered into the computer and the telescope can find it, wherever it may be. It is highly accurate, perfectly centering in the field of view.
The Fairfield County Astronomical Society holds regular meetings at 8pm on the second Tuesday of each month on the second floor of the observatory. Everyone is welcome! Check our calendar for dates at www.stamford-observatory.com

The SKYPi Observatory is the result of our need to liberate an astronomical imaging interest from the light polluted muck of uncontrolled big city expansion. After searching, to no avail, throughout Arizona for an affordable and truly dark solution, the move to sparsely populated and unspoiled New Mexico became an obvious solution. This dark sight was found in Pie Town, New Mexico; population approximately 200. The nearest small population center (Springerville, AZ) is 65 miles away and Albuquerque 150 miles.
SKYPi boasts Bortle Dark Scale 1 sky. An altitude of nearly 8,000 feet places the sight above the majority of particulates and haze that plague many lower sites.

Staff of the Science and Technology Center supports over 4000 computers, 20 local area networks, one wide area network, and over 10,000 end users.
A new planetarium, with a 40' diameter dome and theater seating for 92 visitors, is scheduled to open during Spring 2011. The former Walker County Planetarium opened in 1967 and provided astronomical and space science experiences for visitors from across the southeast until 1998.
The Science and Technology Center is home to the BugMobile and the Space Shuttle (www.walkerschools.org), as well as the International ComputerWorld Honors Program Award-Winning Eco-Connections Project (www.eco-connections.org).
