The Blue Earth County Historical Society (BECHS) is committed to providing a modern approach to preserving and sharing history about our county. The American-French Genealogical Society, formed in February of 1978, is a 501c3 non-profit organization devoted to people of French Canadian descent. Our mission is to study and preserve our rich heritage by assisting members in discovering their ancestors and the daily events that shaped their lives. Canadian immigration into the United States began as early as the seventeenth century, but between 1871 and 1901 the greatest influx of immigrants entered this country. Taxation, debts, unemployment, and a failing economic environment contributed to over 2 million French Canadians, with shattered dreams, migrating to the U.S. seeking economic refuge. This was a major loss to Canada, whose population at the time ranged from 3.7 million to 4.8 million. Since then, more than 10 million of their descendants have assimilated into American society. The language and culture preserved by the over-whelming number of Franco-Americans is disappearing, however, due to sociological changes.

Historic Tuscaloosa is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and sharing the cultural and architectural history of the region. Through exhibits, educational programming, historic tours, archival resources, and community events, they engage residents and visitors in meaningful explorations of the past. The organization supports preservation projects, partners with local groups, and offers opportunities for volunteers and members to participate in heritage initiatives. Whether showcasing early settlement history, architectural landmarks, or stories of people who shaped the community, Historic Tuscaloosa serves as a resource for learning, appreciation, and cultural enrichment.

We operate the Pioneer House museum at 28 Gish Road in Rittman, Ohio. There you'll find exhibits representing early life in Rittman from the pioneer era through the early 20th century. We proudly feature materials reflecting the history of the industries that have called Rittman home throughout the years, and a room dedicated to Rittman's veterans. We also operate historic Knupp Church on Kunkler Drive just north of Rittman Cemetery on Decourcey Road. This beautiful one-room church was built in 1817, and is available for meeting and wedding rentals. In addition to several open houses and events held throughout the year, both locations can be viewed at your request. We welcome any size group, from one or two to school classes, scout troops, church groups, etc.
