Founded in 1967, Gaston Day School is a nonsectarian, college-preparatory school for grades Preschool through 12 with approximately 500 students and 65 full and part-time faculty and staff. Gaston Day attracts students from a five-county area, including Gaston, Mecklenburg, Lincoln, Cleveland, and York, and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Southern Association of Independent Schools, and the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools and approved by the North Carolina Department of Education. We exist to spread a passion for the Supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ. We are called The Rising because we are passionate about the Jesus of The Bible. We identify ourselves with Jesus’ death by faith, and consequently we identify ourselves with Jesus’ resurrection (Colossians 2:11-13). The Rising not only celebrates the new life and joy found in trusting and treasuring Jesus, but we also put our hope in and long for the day when we rise from the dead— beauty from ashes—and all things are made new (Revelation 21:5). We are called The Rising because we desire–with God’s help–to rise as a city within a city in truth (John 17:17-19; Deuteronomy 29:29). We believe that God has contours and certain definitions. He is not vague and foggy. And therefore, what God has revealed to us in his word—the Bible—puts contours on reality. This is truth. We are called The Rising because we desire–with God’s help–to rise as a city within a city in beauty (Isaiah 61:3). We believe that not only that God has contours and definitions, but that in his communication of himself, he has revealed himself to and in his church. Consequently, God is known by his church’s love for one another (1 John 4:7-9). When this love is displayed, the beauty of the triune God radiates and rises.

Our Vision Our vision is to have a place of worship and training. Bringing both, the new convert and those already growing, into service in the Kingdom. We are a traditional, Bible-believing church, and our services are a time to worship God through music, be encouraged by testimonies of God working in lives today, and hear practical, relevant, Bible-based sermons. Our churches are conservative in nature, following a tradition of Wesleyan holiness practiced by those whom the Holy Spirit descended on at Azusa. We believe the entire Bible is God's infallible Word and uphold the fundamental teachings of New Testament faith. A detailed explanation of the doctrines we hold is available on our website. Our church sprang from the Azusa Revival of 1906 which took place in Los Angeles, CA. Our founder, Florence Crawford, received the infilling of the Holy Spirit at Azusa and in 1908 moved to Portland, Oregon, and established this ministry. Since then, the work has grown to include hundreds of churches on six continents. Those who experienced the revival of 1906 began publishing a paper titled "The Apostolic Faith" to report the miracles taking place in their midst. When Florence Crawford moved to Portland, the publishing ministry was placed in her hands and has been a central focus of our organization ever since. Today, "The Apostolic Faith" is produced as a magazine, and our publishing ministry has expanded to include evangelistic tracts, doctrinal booklets, curriculum series for all ages, a daily devotional, and more.
