We are working toward opening a combination emergency/transitional shelter for battered/homeless women AND their pets, which may be a first for ILLINOIS. We need volunteers to help w/fundraising, paperwork, researching property, etc. Please contact us either via the website, www.luannslighthouse.net, or email [email protected]. We need to help put a stop to the abuse of both women & their animals. 50% of abused pet owners will NOT leave due to fear of what will happen to their pets if they leave them behind. This has to STOP!! There is an ASTRONOMICAL number of abused women in the state of ILLINOIS, let alone the rest of the country. If your sister or your best friend was being battered and she had a pet she adored, wouldn't you want a safe place for her to go?
