We teach Karate to ages from 3 and up. We cater to individual needs for growth, Not just for Self-Defense but growth in all aspects of life.

Cova Karate, also known as Coastal Virginia Karate, is a novel kind of karate school. We draw our inspiration from traditional Okinawan karate, emphasizing the WHY rather than the HOW. Our training ethos is "Function over Form". Our instruction at CoVa Karate of Virginia Beach is based on what some people call "traditional" Okinawan Karate. Our martial arts have their origins in more ancient Okinawan training concepts and methods, before the Japanese turned karate from a sport into a means of life protection, which is its actual purpose, and before it was taught to American GIs. We are the Virginia Beach dojo for Okinawan-based karate. Tudi, which means "Chinese Hand," was the name of the art until the middle of the 19th century, when it was renamed to Karate to better reflect Japanese philosophy and set Okinawa apart from its Chinese roots. At Coastal Virginia Karate, we teach traditional Okinawan karate using a contemporary method. Both Karate and Kobudo, the Okinawan art of weapons, are part of our methodology.
