Dr. Rakesh Gupta received his schooling in Bangalore, India. He attended medical school at J. N. Medical College in Belgaum, India, graduating with Honors and receiving several gold medals. He was ranked first in the University for the final year of his training. Dr. Gupta did two years of research at Cornell University Medical College in New York from 1980-82. He completed three years of Internal Medicine residency training at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, Bronx, New York, in 1985. In 1987, Dr. Gupta completed two years of fellowship training in Gastroenterology from S.U.N.Y. Health Science Center, Brooklyn, New York. He joined Cape Fear Center For Digestive Diseases practice in November 1990. His major interests include diagnosis and management of various gastrointestinal disorders including liver and pancreatic disease. He sees patients with peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux, altered bowel habits, lower intestinal bleeding, and colon polyps or cancer. He places special emphasis on dietary education. Dr. Gupta performs colonoscopy for routine colon cancer screening and therapeutic intervention, as needed.

Dr. J. Wes Jones graduated C Laude at Duke University with a B.A. degree in Zoology. He also received his MD degree from Duke University Medical School and completed his Internal Medicine residency as well at Duke. In 1983, Dr. Jones was board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, having completed his Gastroenterology fellowship at Duke in 1983. Dr. Jones is author of Cure Constipation Now, a Doctor's Fiber Therapy to Cleanse and Heal (Penguin Press, July 2009), a book written for the general public. Dr. Jones' special interests include both medical and dietary management of various G.I. disorders including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), GE reflux, Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis as well as celiac sprue. Dr. Jones is skilled in conventional and therapeutic colonoscopy and endoscopy. Dr. Jones has been recognized for his professional, volunteer and civic involvement by local and international organizations, including Curamericas Global; La Sociedad Boliviana de Gastroenterologia Filial, Santa Cruz, Bolivia; Cumberland Community Foundation; Methodist University; N.C.S.F.R.E, Asheville, NC, and by a local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America. He received the FACP and AGAF awards for his medical missions in Bolivia, founding the Upper Cape Fear Valley Gut Club, authorship of Cure Constipation Now and his review of the Duke experience with bile acid conjugation. Dr. Jones is married to Lucy Jones, a community volunteer. Dr. Jones currently serves on the Medical Alumni Board for Duke University and is a director (and past chair) of Curamericas Global, international office, Raleigh, NC. He is a former trustee of Methodist University and Brevard College, former director of Fayetteville Area Youth for Christ and Cumberland Community Foundation.

Dr. Sanjeev Slehria received his schooling in Delhi, India. He graduated from medical school and subsequently specialized in General Surgery from MP Shah Medical College in Gujarat, India. He served on the General Surgery Faculty at PS Medical College in Gujarat, India prior to moving to North America. Dr. Slehria did two years of research at Marion Bessin Liver Research Center at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY from 1996 to 1998. He completed three years of Internal Medicine Training at Jacobi Medical Center, Albert Einstein University, NY in 2001. In 2004 he completed three years fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. Dr. Slehria is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Slehria is trained in all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology. His special interests include inflammatory bowel disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, liver, and pancreatobiliary pathology. During his fellowship his research focused on upper gastrointestinal diseases, including Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal cancer and gastroesophageal reflux disease. He joined Cape Fear Center For Digestive Diseases August of 2004. Dr. Slehria has published articles and book chapters related to these topics, and has presented at major national and international meetings. He is skilled in all areas of gastrointestinal endoscopy, including diagnostic and therapeutic upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, and ERCP.

Dr. Christian Y. Chung pursued his career in medicine by enrolling and completing an accelerated six-year B.S./M.D. program at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He graduated Magna C. Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1980 and received his M.D. degree in 1984. He completed three years of Internal Medicine residency training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York between 1984 and 1987. Dr. Chung completed two years of subspecialty training in Gastroenterology and Nutrition at New York Medical College in 1989. He received Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in 1987 and 1989 respectively.
