Its been a while now since i met Ken, a homeless vet who has struggled with all the symptoms of being homeless. He is somewhat mentally challenged, now drinks a bit and yet still has hope in his heart that some day he will have a little place to go home to. That may never happen in his lifetime. However the homeless shelters in North Carolina are providing vets like Ken warmth and food. I took Ken to the VA and after hours of paper work trying to get into a program he was sent on his way. Another Vet suggested The homeless shelter. Thank God. Warm bed, food and a smile. We in the private sector who work and live a normal life may not ever have to experience homelessness however it is comforting to many that shelters are there.
